For tanning white leather. It can also be used for retanning chrome leather. It is easily soluble in water (the solubility in water at 18ºC is 52g/100g), insoluble in ethanol, and the aqueous solution is acidic to litmus. The aqueous solution precipitates 4ZrO2·3SO3·15H2O after a long time at room temperature, and the thinner the solution, the easier it is to precipitate. Relative density (d16)3.22. Melting point 410ºC(no water, decomposition). Low toxicity, median lethal dose (rats, oral)3500mg/kg. It's stimulating.
